This paper discusses the process of urban development of the most representative space of Seville 92: La Cartuja, site of the World Fair. Starting from the public works which allow the transformation of the terrains in urban land, the inital planning proposals about this space are presented. One decade later, the policy decision of locating the 1992 World Fair at this space meant a turning point about the role and urban configuration of La Cartuja. The author briefly discusses the ideas, projects, achievements and implications resulting from this decision, including an evaluation of the process of urban development of this space and its further perspectives.
